If the system control circuits are not happy with these mechanical assemblies then the camera error message will show up. Another thing you can try doing is resetting the camera. This is done in the settings tab of the menu. If turning the camera off then on initially works but later you continue to have problems then the camera will need to be sent in to be looked at.

Sony A7S M2 CMOS Sensor Has Spots, Dust, Dirt, Or Debris On It:

Over time or when using your Sony A7S ii camera in dusty environments you may see dirt or debris on the front CMOS imaging sensor. These spots can show up on your images or video.

What You Can Do:

Normally the debris on the front sensor is fairly simple to clean and remove. The first thing to do is try using an air bulb. These bulbs blow air which will loosen up dirt and debris on the sensor. If that doesn’t work, we would then recommend using specially made sensor cleaning swabs. These swabs are made of a special material that will clean the sensor without scratching it. It is important that you are very careful when cleaning the sensor of your camera so that you don’t scratch or damage the surface coating.

Sony A7SM2 LCD Display Screen Is Cracked, Scratched, Or Is Not Coming On (Dead)

LCD problems usually occur after your camera has been dropped, subjected to impact, or has experienced some sort of excessive moisture or liquid damage. The symptoms that you’ll typically see are: a cracked or shattered look, a totally black screen, or a distorted picture.

What You Can Do:

If your screen is cracked or damaged unfortunately the only way to fix this is to physically replace the LCD screen. There are things that you can do to protect your LCD screen from being scratched or damaged. First thing is to always store your camera in a protective camera case. Using a screen protector can also help protect your LCD screen from scratches. With this type of problem, prevention is the only way to stop this part of the camera from being damaged.

This is a fairly straightforward repair. We replace the LCD screen and then fully clean and service your camera. We only use original Sony parts with this repair. We have seen generic screens out there which can be cheaper however, they are inferior in picture quality and durability.

Sony A7S ii Not Powering Up And Is Dead, Powers Up With Limited Functionality, No Power:

One of the problems that we sometimes see with the Sony A7S ii cameras are power problems. When you put a power source on your camera (battery or external power adapter) it sends a singular voltage to the internal power circuits in the camera. These circuits send various voltages out to the different parts of the camera. If one of power circuits is compromised your camera will have problems powering up properly. We have also seen power issues after a camera has been dropped or subjected to moisture damage.

What You Can Do:

If you were using an external power source when the problem started occurring, immediately discontinue use of that power source. Try a fresh battery and check the functionality of the camera. If it seems to work with your battery, our recommendation would be to permanently discontinue use of that external power source. External power sources have been a big source of power related issues with the Sony A7 Mark2 camera. Before using any external power source make sure to research and check any reviews on that particular product. If you are still having problems after trying a freshly charged battery, that means the problem is being caused by an internal circuit.

Sony A7SM2 Front Lens Mount Is Loose When Lens Is Attached:

The front lens mount is loose and wiggles even when the lens is firmly attached to the camera mount. The lens doesn’t seem tight on the front of the camera.

What You Can Do:

This problem usually occurs when mounting large heavy lenses to the camera without the proper support. We recommend always using a lens collar bracket that will allow you to directly mount the lens to the tripod. This puts more support on the heavy lens instead of the light weight body. Unfortunately if it is already loose it will need to be repaired.

How We Repair Lens Mount Problems:

The most common reason that this happens is that there are internal screws that hold the lens mount to the frame of the camera body. The entire camera must be disassembled in order to gain access to these screws. Once disassembled we are able to tighten the lens mount screws and firmly secure the lens mount. SD Card Slot Is Not Working Or Won’t Read SD Card:

There are two problems that we primarily see with the SD card reader. One is the card won’t click or lock into place. The other problem is when you put an SD card inside the card reader it doesn’t read or write to the SD card properly and it may also show an error.

What You Can Do:

If you are having problems with the card reader in the camera, the first thing to try is another SD card. Another thing you can try if you are able to is to reformat the memory card. If you are continuing to have problems then the camera will need to be sent in for repair.

Most of the time the SD card slot PCB will need to be replaced. We properly diagnose and confirm the issue and let you know the problem. If we find that the SD card slot board is the problem, we will replace it with a new part.

Sony A7S ii Front Shutter Curtain Is Stuck In The Closed Position And Will Not Open:

A problem that we sometimes see is the front shutter that covers the CMOS sensor is stuck in the closed position. The shutter will not reset back to its normal operation either when you initially power it on or when you are physically trying to take a picture.

What You Can Do:

We have heard of situations that by hitting or jarring the camera you can unstick the shutter. We do not recommend that you hit or jar the camera in anyway. There are very sensitive parts in the camera that can be damaged by any sort of impact.

We recommend power cycling the camera. Remove the battery and then reapply the battery and then power it on. Doing this causes the camera to go into a system check/reboot which can ultimately cause the shutter to unstick. We do not recommend trying this more than three times.

How We Repair Shutter Problems:

We carefully inspect the shutter block assembly and associated drive circuitry and then report back to you with your estimate. Once an estimate is approved, we repair or replace (depending on what we find) the defective part or parts of the camera. There are times that by simply unsticking the shutter will fix this issue.

The HDMI Port On Your A7S2 Doesn’t Work Or Has An Intermittent Connection.

The micro HDMI port is a connector that is generally used on these cameras. We have seen problems that overtime the HDMI port loses signal and can develop connection issues or will not work at all. Although the micro HDMI port is small, it is fairly durable especially due to how it is soldered to the main circuit board. There are many solder points that hold the port to the board making it’s connection very strong.

What You Can Do:

If you notice that the HDMI port is starting to lose connection, the first thing I would try is another HDMI cable. I would also look for a cable that is thinner and more pliable so that it puts less stress on the connector. If you are not getting any output out of the HDMI port I would recommend resetting the camera. There may be an issue or setting that could be causing this.

Sony A7SM2 Tripod Mount Is Stripped Or Broken:

A problem that we sometimes see with the Sony A7S ii camera is that the tripod mount is stripped. If you look closely at the tripod mount you could possibly see that the threads are flattened, stripped, or mashed down. This typically occurs because of over tightening the tripod plate on the camera or if the camera has suffered impact while mounted on a tripod.

What You Can Do:

First of all to prevent this from happening, never over tighten the tripod mount on your camera. Once you feel that the tripod mount is starting to feel stripped (tripod screw just turns and turns without it getting any tighter) we strongly recommend that you discontinue mounting it on to the tripod. We have seen situations that if you have a heavier lens on your A7S ii it may pop off of the tripod plate which intern would cause a severe impact.

If the tripod mount socket is stripped, most of the time this is a very straightforward repair where we replace the tripod mount. If an impact has caused the damage to the tripod mount, it is possible that the part of the camera where the tripod mount screws to is damaged. We very carefully inspect this area of the camera and would recommend replacing that part as well if needed.
