The glass that covers the CMOS sensor, on the front of the camcorder, may be scratched or marked. This can cause artifacts in the recorded footage.
This most likely occurs from mounting the lens at an angle and accidentally hitting or touching the front window glass. This can easily be avoided by using caution when mounting the front lens, as to not come in contact with the glass.
Also use extreme caution when cleaning the front sensor glass, it is easily damaged if you use the wrong cleaning supplies. Never use Q-tips, your shirt, tissues, or even a dirty lens cloth. We recommend using a new clean lens cloth.
Never spray anything directly on the front of the camcorder. If you use any lens cleaning solution put a very small amount on the cloth and then apply it to the glass.
Unfortunately, if the damage has already occurred then the front protective glass plate will need to be replaced.

Fan Stopped Error Warning Message
The fan warning error message is caused by the internal cooling fan having an inability to function. When you first turn on the camera the fan doesn’t automatically start right away. It could take up to 10-20 mins for it to come on. (Depending on heat build up in the camera) At that point you will get the fan error message.
We have seen a few reasons for fan problems with the PXW-FS7. Our service center is very experienced with the FS7 and would be happy to help you with it.

Sensor is dirty, there is debris or dirt in the sensor or ND filters. You may notice spotting when recording.
You can try removing any dust or debris from the front sensor area of the camcorder using a cleaning bulb, referred to as a “air blaster bulb.” Never use canned air. Canned air can move the dust and debris deeper into the sensor, resulting in a larger repair. Canned air also can off gas leaving residue.
You can also try cleaning the front glass with a new clean lens cloth. Use extreme caution when cleaning the front sensor glass, it is easily damaged if you use the wrong cleaning supplies. Never use Q-tips, your shirt, tissues, or even a dirty lens cloth.
Never spray anything directly on the front of the camcorder. If you use any lens cleaning solution put a very small amount on the cloth and then apply it to the glass.
If this does not solve your problem and your sensor needs a more thorough cleaning then the camcorder will need to be shipped in for repair.

Lens is not communicating with the body of the camcorder. Both auto focus and manual focus may not be working correctly. You may also not be able to adjust the iris or control the F stop. Lens not zooming in or out. These problems can be intermittent. The contact strip with the gold pins on the front of the camcorder may look damaged, such as bent pins, or maybe pushed in.
The most likely cause of these problems is due to a bad connection between the body contacts and the contacts on the lens. The small gold pins on the body side stop making a reliable connection and cause intermittent problems. They may be pushed in, stuck, bent, dirty or just worn.
You can try cleaning the contacts using alcohol on a sensor cleaning swab. Be very careful not to apply too much pressure damaging the pins.
If the pins look damaged, we recommend that you not try and fix the pins by straighten or bending the pins. This can cause additional damage to the camcorder.
If the contact assembly needs to be replaced, then the camcorder will need to be shipped in for repair.
